Tremont Programs Suspended During Government Shut Down

Tremont Programs Suspended During Government Shut Down
Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Therefore during the government shutdown, Tremont programs will be suspended. Roads leading to Tremont have been gated closed and locked during the shutdown.

We have a small crew manning the office, and the rest of the employees have been sent home.

Employees that live on site are permitted to stay at this time, and the school group that is currently in residence will be making departure preparations.

Once the shut down ends, Tremont will be able to resume programming fairly quickly. Tremont will be updating www.gsmit.org with updates as they occur.

Note from Tiffany, Citizen Science Coordinator
Volunteers - If you regularly monitor a plot or project for us, please don't come into the Park until further notice.

For now, we can't host programs like monarch tagging. Tomorrow's monarch tagging is canceled. If you are signed up for one of our monarch tagging dates scheduled for later this week, please stay tuned. We will take it one day at a time.
